Hadji Piada 2006 : mise en place d'une opération de grande envergure / Hadji Piada 2006: large-scale operations in process

Mise en place d'un Comité scientifique pour la protection de la mosquée d'Hadji Piada (relevés des données architecturales et restaurations). Marylène BARRET, restauratrice, lauréate du prix Aga Khan pour la restauration de la mosquée d'Asnaf au Yémen, et Charyar ADLE, archéologue (CNRS) se rendront à Hadji Piada à la fin de l'été 2006 pour une mission d'évaluation du futur programme de restauration. Les travaux de relevés photogrammétriques débuteront à l'automne 2006 (voir photo 1). A scientific committee is being launched to plan the protection of the Hadji Piada mosque (architectural works and restorations). Marylène BARRET, winner of the Aga Khan Prize for the restoration of the mosque of Asnaf in Yemen, and Charyar ADLE, an archaeologist with CNRS will work at Hadji Piada beginning in late summer 2006 to undertake a restoration assessment mission; photogrammetric work will begin in autumn 2006. 10 avril - 2 mai 2006 : formation des restaurateurs au Musée national de Kaboul / Training of Afghan conservators at the National Museum in Kabul

Stéphanie NISOLE, restauratrice, a participé à la formation de 5 restaurateurs, du 10 avril au 2 mai dernier, au Musée national de Kaboul (travaillant notamment sur les stucs de Hadda détruits pendant la guerre). Cette mission a eu lieu parallèlement à celle d'Angélique LAURENT-DI MANTOVA, restauratrice et spécialiste en conservation préventive, mandatée par Spach et l'Unesco (voir photo 2). Conservator Stéphanie NISOLE led a conservation course between the 10th of April and 2nd of May at the National Museum in Kabul. Five Afghan conservators were trained, and work was conducted on the stuccos of Hadda, which were destroyed during the war. This mission took place parallel to that of Angelique LAURENT-DI MANTOVA, conservator and specialist in preventive conservation, appointed by SPACH and UNESCO. (see picture 2).

Un musée pour le Nord de l'Afghanistan / A museum for Northern Afghanistan

Un terrain a été sélectionné par la DAFA dans le nouveau quartier d'Omar Faruk à Mazar-i Sharif pour accueillir le futur musée du nord de l'Afghanistan, dont la construction sera réalisée dans le cadre d'une collaboration entre la DAFA et le ministère de la culture d'Afghanistan (voir photo 3). A site was selected by DAFA in the new district of Omar Faruk in Mazar-i Sharif to host a future museum for Northern Afghanistan. Museum construction will be carried out within the framework of cooperation between DAFA and the Ministry of Culture of Afghanistan. (see picture 3).

Formation d'un topographe afghan à la DAFA / Training of an Afghan topographer at DAFA

Ahmed Ali, assistant topographe de la DAFA, a bénéficié d'une formation de deux semaines réalisée par Stéphane LOMBARDO, ingénieur topographe, au siège de l'entreprise FKH Geoexpert, basée à Kaboul (voir photo 4). Ahmed Ali, assistant topographer of DAFA, benefited from two weeks' training conducted by Stephane LOMBARDO, a topographic engineer with Kabul-based FKH Geoexpert (see picture 4).

Wardak : la DAFA lance un projet de développement pour appuyer les fouilles / Wardak: DAFA launches a development project to support the excavations

Les négociations avec le village de Dâdel sont toujours en cours pour la mise en place d'une opération de développement local qui viendrait en soutien du chantier de fouilles archéologique démarré en 2005 (voir photo 5). Negotiations with the village of Dâdel are ongoing for the launching of a local development project which would support archaeological excavations begun in 2005 (see picture 5).

Ecole de Tepe Zargaran - début des cours / School of Tepe Zargaran - beginning of the courses

300 élèves ont déjà rejoint les bancs de l'école de Tepe Zargaran, réalisée grâce à un financement Musée Guimet-Fond Bugshan, et à une collaboration entre les autorités locales de Balkh, la DAFA et ACTED (voir photo 6). Almost 300 pupils have begun attendance of the Tepe Zarqaran school, built with funds from the Musée Guimet-Bugshan Fund, in collaboration with Balkh local authorities, DAFA and ACTED (see picture 6).

Visite de France MAZIN, représentante du Fond Bugshan / A visit from France MAZIN, Bugshan Fund representative

Madame France MAZIN, représentante du Fond Bugshan à Paris et responsable du mécénat au Crédit Agricole, s'est rendu dans la province de Balkh pour visiter les travaux réalisés par la DAFA et financés par le Fond Bugshan pour la mosquée d'Hadji Piada (pose d'une couverture de protection géotextile et gardiennage de la mosquée) et pour l'école de Tepe Zargaran (voir photo 8). Mrs France MAZIN, a representative of the Bugshan Fund in Paris, and currently responsible for fundraising and public relations at the Crédit Agricole, visited the province of Balkh to see the work completed by DAFA and ACTED with the financial support of the Bugshan Fund. Mrs. Mazin visited the Hadji Piada Mosque (to see the construction, including protective screens and roofing, among others) and the new Tepe Zarqaran school (see picture 8).

Exposition : les " trésors retrouvés d'Afghanistan " / Exhibition: "Les trésors retrouvés d'Afghanistan"

Une délégation du Musée Guimet, composée de Messieurs Jean-François JARRIGE, président, et Pierre CAMBON, conservateur en chef des collections d'Afghanistan, s'est rendue à la DAFA du 9 au 14 mai dernier en vue de la préparation de l'exposition sur " Les trésors retrouvés d'Afghanistan " qui aura lieu à Paris, à l'hiver 2006. Ils étaient accompagnés de Monsieur Ernst VEEN, directeur de la Nieuwe Kerk Foundation Amsterdam et Madame DERAKHSHANI VAN DE BRUIN, représentante du Prins Claus Fonds. A delegation from the Guimet Museum, composed of Mr. Jean-François JARRIGE, president, and Mr. Pierre CAMBON, chief curator of the Afghan collections, visited DAFA from the 9th to the 14th of May, to prepare for the exhibition "Les trésors retrouvés d'Afghanistan". The exhibition will take place in Paris in winter 2006. The delegation was accompanied by Mr Ernst VEEN, director of the Nieuwe Kerk Foundation, Amsterdam, and Mrs DERAKHSHANI VAN DE BRUIN, representative of Prins Claus Fonds.

Visite de Lanfranco SECCO SUARDO à Hadji Piada / Visit of Lanfranco SECCO SUARDO to Hadji Piada

Monsieur Lanfranco SECCO SUARDO, président de l'Associazione Giovanni Secco Suardo, s'est rendu à Hadji Piada du 8 au 11 mai dernier pour une mission d'évaluation et de mise en place d'un partenariat entre la DAFA et l'Association Secco Suardo en vue de la protection de la mosquée. Mr Lanfranco SECCO SUARDO, president of the Associazione Giovanni Secco Suardo, went to Hadji Piada from the 8th to the 11th of May for an assessment mission and partnership operation between DAFA and Secco Suardo's association for the protection of the mosque.

Visite en France de trois représentants de l'Institut national d'archéologie d'Afghanistan / Visit in France of three representatives of the National Institute of Archaeology of Afghanistan

Du 15 au 28 mai dernier, trois représentants de l'Institut national d'archéologie, Messieurs Nader RASSOULI, directeur, Mir Abdul Rahuf ZAKER, directeur-adjoint et Samad QADERYAN, conseiller scientifique, se sont rendus en France accompagnés de David JURIE (DAFA) et Philippe MARQUIS, archéologue, pour une série d'entretiens avec les responsables des grandes institutions patrimoniales française (Centre de recherche et de restauration des Musées de France, Institut national du patrimoine, Musée national des Arts asiatiques - Guimet, Laboratoire de recherche des monuments historiques, etc.) - voir photo 7. From the 15th to the 28th of May, three representatives of the National Institute of Archaeology, Mr. Nader RASSOULI (director), Mr. Mir Abdul Rahuf ZAKER (deputy director) and Mr. Samad QADERYAN (scientific adviser), went in France to visit several French institutions dealing with cultural heritage, including the Restoration and Research center of the French Museums, the National Institute of Cultural Heritage, the Guimet Museum, the Research Laboratory for Historical Monuments, and others... (see picture 7)

CONFERENCES, DEBATS / CONFERENCES & DEBATES

Conférence à l'Auditorium du Louvre / Conference at the Louvre Auditorium

Roland BESENVAL, directeur de la DAFA, a donné une conférence sur la réouverture et la reprise des activités de la DAFA à l'Auditorium du Louvre, le 29 mai dernier. Roland BESENVAL, director of DAFA, gave a conference on DAFA's reopening and resumption of activities in Afghanistan at the Louvre on May 29th.

Conférence à l'Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-lettres / Conference at the Academy

Une autre conférence aura lieu le 23 juin prochain à l'Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-lettres, sur la réouverture de la DAFA et les premiers résultats des travaux archéologiques conduits par la DAFA à Bactres. Elle sera donnée par Messieurs Roland BESENVAL, directeur de la DAFA, Paul BERNARD, membre de l'Institut et Philippe MARQUIS, archéologue. Another conference will take place on the 23rd of June at the Academie des Inscriptions et Belles-lettres, on the DAFA's reopening in Afghanistan, and the first results of DAFA archaeological excavations in Balkh. The conference will be led by Mr. Roland BESENVAL, director of DAFA, Paul BERNARD, member of the Institute, and Philippe MARQUIS, archaeologist.

COMMUNICATION

Deux films documentaires en cours de réalisation sur les activités de la DAFA / Two documentary films on the activities of the DAFA

Deux tournages sont actuellement en cours sur les activités de la DAFA. Un premier film est consacré au montage et à la mise en place de l'exposition sur les trésors retrouvés d'Afghanistan. Un second film, qui débutera cet été, sera entièrement consacré à la DAFA, depuis sa création jusqu'à sa réouverture officielle en 2004 (voir photo 9). Two documentaries are now complete on the activities of DAFA. A first film is devoted to the preparation and installation of the exhibition. A second film, which will open this summer, traces the history of DAFA, from its creation to its official reopening in 2004 (see picture 9).
